The ground itself shook.

This is not an uncommon event in New York: I lost count of the number of construction sites that I passed on my weekend in the city. Most of my favourite photo series include the element of chance over time, so I was playing with exposures that would not be able to produce sharp images. For this photo I had the camera braced against a street sign, and when the ground shook, so did it.
