One thing that visiting a heavily urbanized and peopled section of the waterfront drives home: we use far too much plastic.

It's trite to have a moment of realization, I suppose, but there's just so many plastic bags and bottles that are used for moments but last for an eon. Reducing plastic waste is something that I've idly done for a while, reflexively recycling and using reusable bags for most of my shopping, but man – do I ever need to do better.
