The pageantry of the annual auto show fascinates me. Bold colours and claims are everywhere, even as the vehicles themselves become more monochrome. So for 2017 I decided to remove most of the distractions and reimagine the convention centre as blank space.

These images have all been taken in infrared, which typically can't differentiate between different colours of vinyl or paint. Synthetic fabrics turn bright, and LCD screens go dark. Designers have no need to consider this part of the spectrum, creating an experience very different from the one they had intended.

The starkness and isolation of the different spectrum provided a respite from the visual noise, which is the reverse of what I usually photograph at these shows. While I can't say that these are my best photos, they are some of my favourites.
